'Running' by Gabrielle Gee

Music video by Alice Kitson

'Running' explores themes of anxiety and overthinking, ultimately leading to unfavourable paths. The lyrics encourage listeners to look at what they are running from and why.

When discussing their ideas for a music video, Gee noted they were visually inspired by the idea of high contrast red and black, grainy video tapes, and storytelling.

After reviewing the lyrics and pacing, I built up a storyboard that captured specific footage ideas and segments. I particularly wanted to include:

- Storytelling aspects (running, hiding, and walking in a wooded area)

- Lighting symbolism to evoke feelings of fear and dread

- Videos of the band performing as a group

- A mix of high-end modern footage, and grainy camcorder footage

"I really like the use of hand-held recording techniques. It adds a sense of personability, which lends itself nicely to the lyricism".

Working with a £0 budget, we managed to gather the band, and behind-the-scenes photographer Ella Hicks for three shooting days. The first two days were spent on location at a local park, and the final day was spent in my filming studio at Manchester Metropolitan University's SODA building - where I study.

After filming, I began to edit the video in DaVinci resolve, along with a time-locked version of the track. Meetings, reviews, and collaborative sessions were held throughout the entire production process end-to-end with myself and Gee.

The final video was released on the 9th of October 2026.

"The pacing and timing of the edit is one of the best features of this music video. It really helps keep viewers visually engaged."
